Google Ads for Online Stores

We build ads that count revenue and margin, not clicks: a clean Merchant Center feed, a well-designed Performance Max and Shopping structure, and accurate purchase tracking with value.

Niche specifics

Why ads for Online Stores can’t follow a template

01

Marketplaces in every search result

Large marketplaces and aggregators show up for almost every product search and carry a wide assortment. A store needs its own offer and a precise split of budget toward products where it's truly competitive.

02

A feed that limits impressions

Titles without specs, empty GTINs, inaccurate categories and disapproved items in Merchant Center limit impressions before bidding even comes into play. Feed quality is half the success of shopping ads.

03

Revenue instead of profit

A campaign with a good ROAS can lose money if it sells low-margin products. Without tagging your assortment by margin, the algorithm optimizes for turnover, not earnings.

04

Brand masks the real result

Performance Max readily takes brand traffic and warm audiences who would have bought anyway. Without separating brand and non-brand, it's hard to see how many new customers ads actually bring.

Sample ad

Here’s what your ad could look like

This is just one variation. In a responsive search ad, we write up to 15 headlines and 4 descriptions, and Google assembles the best combination for each search.

  • The search keyword appears in the first headline
  • A concrete benefit and offer instead of generic claims
  • A call to action that matches the goal: call, booking, directions
  • Sitelinks lead to relevant pages

Analytics

What we count as a result

Automated bid strategies learn from the data we feed them. That’s why we only count actions that lead to sales.

  • Purchase with order value (purchase)
  • Add to cart (add_to_cart)
  • Checkout started (begin_checkout)
  • One-click order
  • Call from the ad or website
  • New customer's first purchase

Demand seasonality

Peak periods for most stores are Black Friday, the weeks before New Year, Valentine's Day and March 8 (International Women's Day), plus back-to-school prep in August. We prepare the feed, budgets and bids in advance: we update sale prices, add promotions in Merchant Center and apply seasonality adjustments for short sales.

Google Ads restrictions in this niche

Merchant Center requires your site to show contact details and shipping, payment and return terms, and the price and availability in the feed must match the product page. Mismatches often lead to account suspension for misrepresentation, so we check these before launch.

FAQ

Common questions about ads for Online Stores

Answers to the questions business owners ask most often before launch.

What's better for a store: Performance Max or standard Shopping campaigns?

For most stores, Performance Max with a feed becomes the foundation because it covers all Google inventory and works well with conversion value. We keep standard Shopping campaigns where manual control is needed: new products with no history, narrow categories, price testing or strict search term limits. They often run together with a clear split of products between campaigns.

Can ads be optimized for profit rather than revenue?

Yes. We tag products by margin with custom labels in the feed and spread them across campaigns with different ROAS targets. If needed, we pass cost of goods sold to see profit reports. That way the algorithm doesn't chase expensive but low-profit sales.

How do you account for competition with marketplaces?

We look at the price competitiveness report in Merchant Center and impression share for key products. We focus budget on items where the store has an edge in price, availability or service. In the ads, we highlight what sets you apart: fast shipping, expert advice, convenient returns.

Should we advertise the store's brand if we already rank first organically?

Brand Search is usually inexpensive and protects against traffic being intercepted by competitors and resellers. But we run it as a separate campaign and exclude the brand from Performance Max so it doesn't inflate the results of non-brand campaigns.

What do you need from us to get started?

Access to Google Ads, Merchant Center, GA4 and Google Tag Manager, or to your site's admin panel. We'll also need margin information by category and a list of priority products. If any of this doesn't exist yet, we'll set it up from scratch.
