Why ads for Medical Centers & Clinics can’t follow a template

01

Many specialties, one budget

When gynecology, cardiology and ultrasound compete in one campaign, the money goes to the cheapest clicks rather than the specialties you need most. You need a structure by specialty, with separate budgets and priorities.

02

Ads don't know the schedule

A doctor is on vacation or booked weeks ahead, yet ads keep sending patients who have to be turned away. We align campaigns with the schedule and slow down specialties with no open slots.

03

Patients choose a doctor, not a clinic

Searches like “good cardiologist” or “gynecologist reviews” mean the person is looking for a specific specialist. Doctor pages with education, experience and reviews are often more persuasive than a generic homepage.

04

Symptom searches and irrelevant traffic

Searches like “headache what to do” bring lots of clicks from people looking for information or medication. We select symptom searches with intent to see a doctor and cut out “pills,” “home remedies” and “forum.”

Sample ad

Here’s what your ad could look like

This is just one variation. In a responsive search ad, we write up to 15 headlines and 4 descriptions, and Google assembles the best combination for each search.

  • The search keyword appears in the first headline
  • A concrete benefit and offer instead of generic claims
  • A call to action that matches the goal: call, booking, directions
  • Sitelinks lead to relevant pages

Ad descriptions

Cardiologist visit, ECG and heart echo in one clinic. We explain the results right away.

Choose a doctor and time online, or call and our front desk will find a convenient slot.

Analytics

What we count as a result

Automated bid strategies learn from the data we feed them. That’s why we only count actions that lead to sales.

  • Booking via the website or clinic software (MIS) widget
  • Call to the contact center from an ad or the website
  • Directions to a branch in Maps
  • Message in a messenger app
  • Checkup or comprehensive exam request
  • Confirmed visit from the MIS (offline conversion)

Demand seasonality

Demand varies by specialty: in fall and winter, visits to pediatricians, general practitioners and ENT doctors rise; in spring, visits to allergists; and before the school year, medical exams and health certificates. Planned exams and checkups usually dip during summer vacations and the New Year holidays.

Google Ads restrictions in this niche

Medical centers can advertise on Google, but with restrictions. What we take into account: prescription drugs can't be promoted either in ads or on the landing pages they lead to; Google doesn't allow advertising of unproven and experimental treatments, including most stem cell therapies and other forms of regenerative medicine; promises of a guaranteed cure risk disapproval under the unreliable claims policy. Health is a sensitive category: personalized advertising based on health conditions, including remarketing and Customer Match, is restricted, and copy must not address people as if you know their diagnosis. That's why we build the foundation on Search and Maps, and use contextual targeting by topics and keywords plus broad audiences for reach. We also take into account Ukrainian law on advertising medical services.

Launch plan

The first 60 days, step by step

  1. 01

    Map of specialties and priorities

Together with you, we decide which specialties to advertise first, based on margin, open slots and your contact center's capacity to handle inquiries.

  2. 02

    Analytics from click to visit

GA4, GTM, call tracking, booking events from the form or MIS widget, Consent Mode v2, and an agreed process for passing confirmed visits to Google Ads without any medical data.

  3. 03

    Structure by specialty

Search campaigns by specialty, with diagnostics and checkups kept separate, Maps for each branch, and copy and pages checked for compliance with Google's healthcare policies.

  4. 04

    Reallocating by availability

Every week we match ads against the schedule: we boost specialties with open slots and slow down overbooked ones, so the budget works for the clinic's real capacity.

FAQ

Common questions about ads for Medical Centers & Clinics

Answers to the questions business owners ask most often before launch.

Can we advertise all of the clinic's specialties at once?

Technically, yes, but it's more effective to start with a few priority specialties that have open slots and a clear patient value. Once analytics shows which specialties drive bookings, we gradually add the rest. That way, the budget isn't spread too thin at launch.

How do we advertise a doctor, not just the clinic?

We create separate ad groups for searches that include a specialty, plus doctor pages covering experience, areas of practice and reviews. If people already search for the doctor by name, we protect those searches with a separate campaign. This works especially well for narrow specialists whom patients book specifically to see “that doctor.”

What if bookings go through a medical information system (MIS) or a third-party widget?

We set up event tracking in the widget through GTM or agree with the MIS developer on passing the data. If that's not possible, we use offline conversion import: confirmed visits are uploaded to Google Ads by click ID or through enhanced conversions for leads.

Does Performance Max work for clinics?

It can, when you have stable, quality conversions and clearly separated specialties. But in healthcare we don't add health-based audiences to the signals, we review creatives carefully and keep an eye on search themes. For launch, Search campaigns usually give more control.

How do we reduce irrelevant calls?

With negative keywords (free, public clinic, prescription, jobs), copy that clearly states the specialty and appointment format, price assets, and showing calls only during contact center hours. Call recordings help identify which searches bring in off-target questions.
